Leinster bleibt das Maß der Dinge im europäischen Vereinsrugby: Das Team besiegte im rein irischen Finale des „Heineken Cup“ Ulster 42:14 (14:6) und verteidigte damit seinen Titel. Für die „Lions“ war es bereits der dritte Triumph im höchsten Club-Wettbewerb des Kontinents innerhalb von vier Jahren. Während dieser Zeit gab es lediglich 2010 mit Stade Toulouse (21:19 gegen Olympique Biarritz) einen anderen Sieger.
